The Liberating Gyrations Of Elvis Presley

January 8, 2009 is what would have been the 74th birthday of Elvis Presley. I grew up knowing only the bloated caricature of Elvis, overweight impersonators in sequin jumpsuits, the star of board of a multitude of abysmal film, and the lurid tabloid stories of dementia decadence behind the gates of Graceland. Years ago such an anniversary would have little meaning for me. Only recently, to look for the man behind the myth, which I find an artist of extraordinary result that is fully worthy of his legendary status. In my youth I arrogantly dismissed the cult of personality around Elvis moldy as the only by-product of nostalgia.
